Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (Inalco)

Over the centuries, Inalco has become a unique institution, teaching languages from Central Europe to Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Oceania. No other institution or country offers such a diverse range of courses, fostering openness and providing a wealth of knowledge in one place.

Founded in 1795, the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (Inalco) is the only public higher education and research institution in the world to offer such a broad spectrum of language and civilization studies, recognized both in France and internationally. From bachelor's degrees to doctorates, as well as institutional diplomas, Inalco's programs are distinguished by their diversity, offering instruction in over 100 languages and civilizations, alongside several professional courses. The institute not only teaches languages but also conducts research on the geography, history, institutions, and political, economic, and social life of regions including Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Asia, Oceania, Africa, and the Americas.

Digital learning is a strategic axis in Inalco’s institutional policy and is central to its development plan. The Institute aims to be a key player in pedagogical innovation and fully embraces new technologies to enhance education. It has developed and continues to expand remote and blended learning programs in languages such as Hebrew, Inuktitut, and Swahili.

Inalco views MOOCs as an opportunity to overcome the barriers of time and space, allowing it to reach a broader audience. As part of this initiative, the "Learning kit in Oriental Languages" offers courses in Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Turkish...
