About the course

Vaccination plays a crucial role in the fight against infectious diseases. In this MOOC, you will explore vaccinology in all its diversity, from vaccine design to clinical trials and population deployment.

Recent years have reminded us that vaccination against infectious diseases remains a central issue: from the unprecedented speed with which vaccines against COVID-19 were developed, to the difficulties of global distribution, to the challenges posed by vaccine hesitancy.
But even before the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, let's not forget that vaccination, along with hygiene and antibiotics, has been one of the main factors responsible for the significant increase in life expectancy over the last 100 years, thanks to its role in controlling deadly diseases.

Here are 5 reasons to take the Vaccinology online course:

Reason 1: Discover this new, revised and updated edition.
This year's Vaccinology MOOC is structured around 4 chapters that will give you an overview of vaccinology, its successes and its challenges: 1-Introduction to Vaccinology; 2-From Vaccine Design to Clinical Trials; 3-Case Studies; 4-Challenges and Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Aim 2: Understand the integrative discipline of vaccinology.
This online course will give you a concise overview of the history of vaccinology and highlight its transdisciplinary nature: immunology, epidemiology, mathematical modelling and many other disciplines are needed to develop vaccines.

Reason 3: Clarify the different stages of vaccine development.
This course will help you to understand that bringing a vaccine to market is a long-term process. You will be able to define the stages from the discovery of antigens, through the selection of a vaccine platform and adjuvants, to the pre-clinical and clinical trials required for their development.

Reason 4: Learn about the development of major vaccines.
The Vaccinology MOOC will enable you to understand the successes and challenges of vaccine development through specific cases: meningitis, influenza, COVID-19 and papillomavirus.

Reason 5: Become aware of the challenges facing vaccinology today and in the future.
This course will highlight the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, including the impact of vaccine hesitancy, the challenges of globalizing vaccine production and making vaccines accessible to all. This training will highlight the importance of pandemic preparedness and the role that future vaccines can play.
