What makes atmospheric science so crucial in the fight against climate change? Learn how state-of-the-art infrastructures enable scientists to monitor our atmosphere, share vital data, and drive coordinated efforts to protect our planet.

Air pollution and climate change are among the most pressing challenges of our time. In this MOOC, scientists will explore atmospheric components, their sources, impacts, and complex interactions—including aerosols, clouds, trace gases, and greenhouse gases. You will gain insights into the importance of data sharing and the development of robust networks within research communities.

How can we measure air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions? How do we monitor climate change effectively? And, most importantly, what actions can we take to tackle these challenges? The MOOC Atmospheric Research Infrastructures: Sharing the Future of Our Atmosphere, by Institut Mines-Télécom addresses these key questions, showcasing cutting-edge research in atmospheric science.

This course offers a comprehensive overview of how Atmospheric Research Infrastructures (RIs) facilitate advanced scientific studies and provide critical data to inform policy decisions for the benefit of society. It highlights the roles, goals, and frameworks of three major RIs: ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds, and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure): focused on understanding atmospheric components and their impacts, IAGOS (In-service Aircraft for a Global Observing System): leveraging commercial aircraft for large-scale atmospheric observations, ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observation System): specializing in monitoring greenhouse gas concentrations and fluxes.

You will also learn how these infrastructures interact, their workflows, and the advantages of a coordinated approach to atmospheric research.

Whether you are an early-career researcher, a future RI operator, or simply passionate about air quality and the planet’s future, this MOOC will broaden your knowledge and deepen your expertise in the dynamic field of atmospheric science.

This MOOC brings together multidisciplinary leading experts to explore the complex interactions of aerosols, clouds, and greenhouse gases join the MOOC Atmospheric Research Infrastructures: Sharing the Future of Our Atmosphereand take a step toward understanding and addressing the critical challenges of air pollution and climate change.
